Indeed it has, and 2006 definitely was a step up from a so-so 2005. There were three extremely worthy artists: Meat Loaf, Elton John and Cat Stevens as a late bloomer. In the end, though, Elton takes this category simply because this is his best in 30 years. While all three albums are good, Elton&#8217;s autobiographical look is not only a worthwhile follow-up to <em>Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy<\/em>, it&#8217;s a return to the strengths that made him a superstar.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"228\" width=\"238\">\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/tangerine-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/12\/davidmead_tangerine.jpg\" alt=\"davidmead_tangerine\" height=\"150\" style=\"width: 150px; height: 150px\" title=\"davidmead_tangerine\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td height=\"228\" width=\"510\">\n<blockquote><p><strong>Indie Album Of The Year<br \/>David Mead &#8212;\u00a0<em>Tangerine <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>David Mead&#8217;s disc was so gloriously weird that it distinguished itself from every other indie album I listened to this year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"220\" width=\"238\">\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/ta-dah\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/12\/scissorsister_ta_150.jpg\" alt=\"scissorsister_ta_150\" height=\"150\" title=\"scissorsister_ta_150\" \/><\/a><br \/>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<td height=\"220\" width=\"510\">\n<blockquote><p><u><br \/><\/u><strong>Biggest Disappointment Of The Year<br \/>Scissor Sisters &#8212; <em>Ta-Dah <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This one really hurt. I loved the Scissor Sisters\u2019 debut album; it made my \u201cBest of\u201d list in 2004. Somewhere along the way I forgot about the sophomore slump. Half of this album is brilliant, just as good as anything off the debut &#8212; in fact, some of the songs might make an appearance in a later category. The second half just is so underwhelming that it ruins the entire first half. Taken together, it&#8217;s the biggest disappointment of the year, with Paul Simon&#8217;s <em>Surprise<\/em> a close second.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Runner Up: Paul Simon &#8212; <\/strong><i><strong>Surprise <\/strong><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"223\" width=\"238\">\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/the-open-door\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/12\/evanescence_open_150.jpg\" alt=\"evanescence_open_150\" height=\"150\" title=\"evanescence_open_150\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<td height=\"223\" width=\"510\">\n<blockquote><p><strong>Worst Album Of The Year<br \/>Evanescence &#8212;<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<em>Open Door <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Man this one really did suck. I liked Evanescence three years ago, but that was then and this is now. This follow-up to the platinum best-seller <em>Origin<\/em> is completely devoid of intensity and feeling, settling on trying to create a creepy atmosphere and hoping Amy Lee can overcome the material than focusing on solid songwriting.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"226\" width=\"238\">\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/the-pick-of-destiny\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/12\/tenaciousd_pick_150.jpg\" alt=\"tenaciousd_pick_150\" height=\"150\" title=\"tenaciousd_pick_150\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<td height=\"226\" width=\"510\">\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Most Fun Album Of The Year<br \/>Tenacious D &#8212;\u00a0<\/strong><strong><i>The Pick of Destiny <\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\">This is partially to satisfy Tenacious D fans who probably did not appreciate my review of this disc, simply because I did not declare it the greatest rock album since <i>Tenacious D<\/i>. It deserves a B and no better. Yonder String Mountain Band takes bluegrass and makes it accessible and vital. Normally, I\u2019d mock anyone who listens to bluegrass as being a redneck, but after playing this album over and over and over again, I can definitely see where the appeal lies. This almost overtook Tenacious D for most fun album.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"231\" width=\"238\">\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/american-v-a-hundred-highways\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/12\/johnnycash_americanv_200.jpg\" alt=\"johnnycash_americanv_200\" height=\"150\" style=\"width: 150px; height: 150px\" title=\"johnnycash_americanv_200\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<td height=\"231\" width=\"510\">\n<blockquote><p><u><br \/><\/u><strong>Most Heartfelt Album Of The Year<br \/>Johnny Cash &#8212;\u00a0<em>American V: A Hundred Highways <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Who else but Johnny Cash? This year Cash quickly become one of my favorite artists, and this posthumous record shows why. Unfortunately, instead of capping of his career, there are apparently plans for an <em>American VI<\/em>. Rick Rubin, I beg you, let this be the last musical statement of the Man in Black. Old school versus new school, but both are extraordinarily talented. For the first time, I didn\u2019t feel ashamed in liking Aguilera songs; she destroys the other pop divas of this age (Britney who?). And, of course, Ronstadt&#8217;s voice has remained solid and her disc this year just proved this. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"231\" width=\"238\">\n<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/12\/johnmayer_continuum_150.jpg\" alt=\"johnmayer_continuum_150\" height=\"150\" title=\"johnmayer_continuum_150\" \/><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<td height=\"231\" width=\"510\">\n<blockquote>\n<p><b>The \u201cWhoa, Where Did This Come From?\u201d Album Of The Year<br \/>John Mayer &#8212;\u00a0<i>Continuum<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>John Mayer was the guy who dressed up as a bear before his concerts and was really funny on <em>Chappelle\u2019s Show<\/em>, but his music was for 12-year-old girls. At least that\u2019s what I thought until this summer. With <em>Try!<\/em> and <em>Continuum<\/em>, Mayer has demonstrated that he is indeed a skilled, mature musician with an appreciation for the blues and true emotion, not just puppy love. His cover of Jimi Hendrix\u2019s \u201cBold As Love\u201d is the encapsulation of this new direction; this is not your sisters\u2019 John Mayer, and the music world is the better for it.<\/p>\n<p><b>Runner up: Guster &#8212; <i>Ganging Up On The Sun <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"231\" width=\"238\">\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/we-shall-overcome-the-seeger-sessions\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/brucespringsteen_seeger_200.jpg\" alt=\"brucespringsteen_seeger_200\" height=\"150\" style=\"width: 150px; height: 150px\" title=\"brucespringsteen_seeger_200\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<td height=\"231\" width=\"510\">\n<blockquote>\n<p><b>\u201cOld School\u201d Album Of The Year<br \/>Bruce Springsteen &#8212; <i>We Shall Overcome &#8211; The Seeger Sessions<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Springsteen took one of the biggest risks of his career with the release of <em>We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions<\/em>. Yet it paid off in spades, since this is one of his best since <state><\/state><place><\/place><em>Nebraska<\/em>. It stands up there as one of the best double albums of all time; it\u2019s just as good as <em>The White Album<\/em>. There is some filler, as with any double outing, but the best songs here more than make up for the deficiencies. <em>Stadium Arcadium<\/em> played on my iPod for months; it was the soundtrack to many summers and will continue to be.
