\"thechanges_today_150\"The Changes \/ Today Is Tonight<\/i><\/b> <\/i>\u2013 As I was visiting the New York office of Kobalt Music Publishing, I heard some great music playing off a desktop and asked who it was.\u00a0 \u201cThe Changes.\u201d\u00a0 I inquired about the Chicago quartet\u2019s label status and heard they were unsigned.\u00a0 I was surprised to hear that as their \u201cToday Is Tonight\u201d album is simultaneously energetic, groove-oriented, hooky, and well-produced.\u00a0\u00a0 Consider airy opening-track \u201cWhen I Wake\u201d and the upbeat guitar-based \u201cWater Of The Gods\u201d great starting points.\u00a0 The British are already onto this band, so be sure to be one of the first to \u201cget it\u201d Stateside. Steve Martin \/ Born Standing Up: A Comic\u2019s Life<\/i><\/b> \u2013 Nowadays, Steve Martin is generally regarded as a movie star first and foremost.\u00a0 While true, he was the first comedian to sell out arenas from coast to coast.\u00a0 However, Martin arguably quit doing stand-up at the peak of his fame.\u00a0 This book is Martin\u2019s reflection about why he started and stopped performing that medium of comedy, rather than a full-on autobiography.\u00a0 Alternately funny, interesting, and sad, it makes for a fast read.\u00a0 (http:\/\/www.stevemartin.com<\/a>)<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Lala<\/b>– While authoritative music industry blogger Bob Lefsetz is critical of Lala, I find it to be an innovative service for consumers.\u00a0 Offering multiple price tiers, it truly permits music listeners to sample millions of songs before purchasing such.\u00a0 While it does not offer the selection or exclusives that iTunes does, its prices are lower than its Apple-run competitor and no additional software is necessary other than a web-browser.\u00a0 It will be interesting to see how this newly-established site is received in the months to come.
