RSTLNE – So let’s get to it. The Divabot set the topic to
\nLet’s Talk About Love<\/i>.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – With an album title like that, you know what’s
\ncoming.<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – (nods) Celine Dion will never change.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – Well,
\nCeline Dion<\/i> and
\nD’eux<\/i> were quite excellent concept albums.<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – She only used like three producers then. This new one
\nhas a billion, give or take ten million. It really takes away
\ncoherence, she sounds WAY oversung and overproduced. I hate
\nthat.<\/p>\n
Divabot sings: “There’s no me, without you, there’s no meaning
\nto life, without you”<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – So what else is wrong here?<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – Well, there’s nothing >wrong< with Sea-Lion. It's\njust that, she's getting boring and predictable.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – The one with Barbra Streisand in it is nice. I like
\nthe way Babs enters, lush, just like marmalade. Celine’s voice …
\nwell, how can I put this …<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – All those years of singing the wrong way is finally
\nstarting to show in her voice. Did you HEAR those straining notes
\nin “The Reason”? I shiver to think of what it will sound like in
\nthe next album. I’m kinda surprised it happened to her before it
\nhappened to Whitney Houston. Good singing. You ain’t born with it,
\nyou’re trained into it. They never learn.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – But I really like some of the songs. “Us” is a good
\nrock ballad, almost as good as “The Reason”. “Treat Her Like A
\nLady” is much funkier than her last effort at reggae “Make You
\nHappy”, I love that rap-chorus she’s doing. One thing about
\nSea-Lion, she isn’t afraid of doing all sorts of styles.<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – Did you know? She’s in the writer’s credits.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – NOO!!! Celine Dion WROTE something???<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – With two other people, but it’s a start. Scandalous in
\na deliciously promising sort of way! But there’s no way to know how
\ninfluencial she was.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – There’s hope for her yet.<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – Gawds, “I Hate You Then I Love You” is coming on.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – Why? It’s a nice collaboration. It sounds very
\nmoonlight-and-champagne-ish. Pavarotti did always make the best
\nduets.<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – Their voices DON’T MESH!!! It’s like that Deloris
\nO’Riordan “Ave Maria” mess he did for the Children of Bosnia
\nconcert. The lyrics are really stupid, too.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – (gently) RSTLNE … you don’t listen to fluff for the<\/p>\n
lyrics<\/i>. “How Do I Live”, you know?<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – BRB, my husband is looking for his keys again.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – ‘Kay.<\/p>\n
Divabot sings: “You don’t need diamond rings or eighteen carat
\ngold, fancy cars that go very fast you know they never last no
\nno”<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – I LOVE that song …<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – Hey, I’m back, they were in the freezer. What song?<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – “Express Yourself” by Madonna. Anyway, you were
\nsaying?<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – Fluffy lyrics. Talk about “Let’s Talk About Love”.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – It’s very “Heal the World”-ish. Not better, not
\nworse. That song doesn’t do a lot for me. I’ve never liked those
\nsort of songs, they sound so FAKED!!!<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – The album doesn’t do a lot for me.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – There has to be SOMETHING you like in the album.<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – “Immortality” is an excellent collaboration. I never
\nliked the Bee Gees by themselves but I like it when they
\ncollaborate with someone else.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – Their backing vocals are terrific. All that harmony.
\nThis time I wasn’t turned off by that falsetto.<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – “My Heart Will Go On” is OK, it’s one of her better
\nballads … which is saying a lot.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – a LOT.<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – “Why Oh Why”, “Be The Man”, “Where Is The Love” are all
\nVanessa Williams-style fillers. I can’t quite believe her producers
\ndon’t get how utterly BORING she sounds.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – “Love is On the Way” is right out of
\nCeline Dion<\/i> and that’s why I like it. It doesn’t compare to
\n“Nothing Broken But My Heart” or anything, but still I like that
\nchorus, She should use more choruses, she knows how to sing with
\nthem.<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – Did we cover it pretty much? “Amar Haciendo El Amor”.
\nOf all the great Spanish or Tejano songs out there, why did she
\npick THAT?<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – I agree. Well, maybe the lyrics are good but then
\nagain; not all listeners know Spanish. It’s very authentic but it
\ndoesn’t have that Sea-Lion Touch.<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – You know, I used to like Celine Dion a lot. But as I
\ngrew up, she didn’t grow up with me.<\/p>\n
AlwaysJB – Carbon-copy albums. I wonder what the critics will
\nsay?<\/p>\n
RSTLNE – They’ll have a field day. But my opinion with Dion is
\nthat I’d much rather buy her singles than her albums. Now excuse me
\nwhile I help my honey with his jumper cables.<\/p>\n
