Blessed with incredible piano skills and a sultry voice, Diana
\nKrall is a remarkable performer. What Brian Setzer did to big band
\nswing, Krall has achieved with traditional jazz. Her 1998 release
\nWhen I Look In Your Eyes<\/i> offers an array of excellent jazz
\nthat will leave you wanting to hear more of her music.<\/p>\n
Irving Berlin’s “Let’s Face The Music And Dance” has the
\natmosphere of Getz\/Gilberto’s “The Girl From Ipanema.”
\nSnappy-styled jazz is heard on “Devil May Care,” written by Bob
\nDorough. The simply beautiful “Let’s Fall In Love” (written by Ted
\nKoehler & Harold Arlen) has the style of the soft jazz classics
\nby Nat King Cole. The music is terrific also, with great piano,
\nelectric guitar, and upright bass.<\/p>\n
The title track, written by Leslie Bricusse, has incredible
\norchestration, and Krall’s sultry vocals really set the romantic
\nmood. “Popsicle Toes” (written by Michael Franks) resembles the
\nsnappy jazz of The Nat King Cole Trio, and its bass line could be
\ncompared to the classic jazz hit “Fever,” covered by Peggy Lee,
\nElvis Presley and many others.<\/p>\n
Cole Porter’s “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” is a traditional
\nclassic recorded by many artists; Krall’s version is simply
\nbeautiful, romantic and sexy. Harry Warren & Al Dubin’s “I’ll
\nString Along With You” is another sultry ballad. Jerome Kern &
\nDorothy Fields’ “Pick Yourself Up” is another great easy listening
\ntune, similar to such artists as Nat King Cole and Frank
\nSinatra.<\/p>\n
“Do It Again” (George Gershwin & B.G. DeSylva) is great slow
\nmood-setter, with smooth, sultry vocals and beautiful
\norchestration. Likewise, the closing “Why Should I Care,”
\nco-written by actor\/jazz lover Clint Eastwood, is beautiful and
\nsexy with its saxophone solos.<\/p>\n
Heavily influenced by Nat King Cole (Krall’s first album was a
\ntribute to him),
\nWhen I Look In Your Eyes<\/i> an incredible album for romantic
\nmood-setting. Fans of related artists such as Eva Cassidy and
\nrecent Grammy-winner Norah Jones will enjoy Diana Krall’s music.
