As a supporter of independent music, WSVNRadio.net has been
\npromoting artists who send us their music.

\nWSVN Radio<\/a>
\nis Eric’s Internet radio station.]<\/i> For every 20 artists,
\nWSVNRadio creates a compilation CD. One of those compilations
\nrecently featured the Travis Allison Band, described by Mike Joyce
\nof The Washington Post as “Like a young Springsteen… and has
\nsomething that sets it apart from most of the bar-band competition
\n— songs. Real songs. Not just party anthems or thinly disguised
\ncover tunes, but fully realized and often ambitious songs.”<\/p>\n

Allison’s fourth album,
\nColor<\/i>, features the song “Long Time Gone,” which was
\npersonally selected by Allison for the
\nWSVNRadio Volume 5<\/i> compilation. An excellent choice, but
\nreally, there isn’t a bad song on this release, as Allison and band
\ncreate a great blend of rock that will easily find favor with music
\nfans.<\/p>\n

The first cut, “Drivin,'” could be called Americana music,
\ncomparable to the likes of John Mellencamp or maybe Bruce
\nSpringsteen. On a much better note, “Grey Skies” is very soulful,
\nan easy hit for Top 40 Radio and Americana-formatted radio
\nstations, given the chance. “Blue” is another entertaining song,
\nand could be another popular hit.<\/p>\n

“Maybe Later” has a rougher, harder-edged sound, almost bluesy;
\nit’s a great rock song, and also very impressive. Like “Grey
\nSkies,” “Let Me Down Easy” is another soulful song, very pleasant
\non the ears, and a great song to listen to over and over. “Incident
\nOn 29th St.” agains draws Mellencamp\/Americana comparisons, yet
\nAllison has a style of his own with his guitar playing and
\nvocals.<\/p>\n

“King Stanley Chester” is quite different, having an
\nalmost-jazzy sound, with some progressive rock piano riffs, and
\nAllison’s vocals are rough-edged in some places, almost like Tom
\nWaits. All in all, it’s another entertaining tune that can easily
\ngrow on the listener. Another soulful, easy tune is “Black Hole,”
\nand the album’s closing tune, “Ghosts Of My Town” may have a slight
\nresemblance to Springsteen, though it’s Travis Allison’s very own
\nstyle.<\/p>\n

Being compared to the likes of Mellencamp and Springsteen is an
\nhonor, yet the Travis Allison Band has a style and sound of their
\nown, very different than those they’re compared to. With a unique
\nvoice and a truly remarkable band behind it, Travis Allison Band’s
\nColor<\/i> displays a great color of sound that should get a lot
\nof attention from the major labels. It’s also interesting to hear
\ntheir previous releases.
