I am of the church that says tributes are better for bands that
\nno longer actively perform or record together. I don’t especially
\ncare for the Black Sabbath tribute
\nNativity In Black<\/i> for that very reason. I mean, if I want to
\nhear Ozzy Osbourne sing “N.I.B.” I’ll pull out a Sabbath CD and
\nhear Geezer Butler play his mean ol’ bass. If I want to hear
\nPrimus, I’ll put in
\nPork
\nSoda<\/i> or
\nSailing The Seas Of Cheese<\/i> (but not
\nThe Brown Album<\/i>) or I’d buy
\nFrizzle
\nFry<\/i> or a bootleg.<\/p>\n
All of that means, I don’t think tribute CDs are meaningful
\nuntil you can’t go to a concert and hear the band play the song.
\nEven the multiple Metallica tribute CD, for example,
\nOverload<\/i> and even the recent Pantera tribute CD. All of
\nthese bands are great bands and they’re still active.<\/p>\n
That’s why I begrudgingly put in
\nWelcome To The Aerosmithonian – A Tribute To Aerosmith<\/i> with
\nlow expectations. The CD contains 10 tracks all performed by
\nsecond-tier 80s musicians. You have Carmine Appice on drums, Jason
\nMcMaster on bass, and Steve Fister on rhythm guitar and solo. Some
\nof the other musicians on here are vocalist Derek St. Holmes, Gilby
\nClarke, Keri Kelli, Marc Ferrari, Jaimie Scott, and Jimmy Crespo,
\nwho co-wrote “Rock In AHard Place” while he was in Aerosmith.<\/p>\n
As if that meant something to someone.<\/p>\n
As if someone can name all the bands the aforementioned
\nmusicians played in.<\/p>\n
As if someone actually owns one of the CDs that these musicians
\nplayed in.<\/p>\n

\nlegend, but I don’t own any CDs with him playing. Not even Blue
\nMurder. Other than that, uh, who cares about these has-beens?<\/p>\n

\nband playing in a bar. There’s not much new here as the covers
\nstick pretty close to the original. Sure, some of the vocalists
\ntake some liberties with the melody, but the solos sound
\ninterchangeable with the guitars of Brad Hamilton and Joe
\nPerry.<\/p>\n
\nCD. It came out a few years ago and it’s called
\nEverybody Wants Some<\/i>.It came out on Cherry Disc Records,
\nit’s a bunch of Boston-area bands and it’s a tribute to Van Halen.
\nStarts out with “Eruption” played on an organ, and ends with
\n“Eruption” played on a banjo. That’s creativity.

\nworld’s most interesting drummer so I admit that doesn’t give
\nCarmine much room to stretch out.<\/p>\n
