They believe in the interconnectedness of all things and create, in their words, \u201cvisionary music for the Freethinking Mystic in all of us, building culture that celebrates the Living Earth. Psychedelic rock with a string trio and a Pagan twist in the tradition of Jethro Tull, Moody Blues and other hallucinogenic masters.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\">Admittedly, that\u2019s pretty wordy. In practical terms, Gaia Consort is the pairing of Christopher Bingham and Sue Tinney along with a collection of friends, lovers, co-conspirators and associates. They perform edgy, well-written folk-rock &#8212; but unlike most folk-rock, it kicks ass. There is nothing namby-pamby or wimpy here; Gaia Consort is pissed off at the state of the world, and they\u2019ll be glad to tell you why in no uncertain terms. They\u2019ll also be glad to tell you stories about fairies, mysterious oracles and dancing all night, and they\u2019ll even throw in some humor free of charge. Their latest release, <i>Vitus Dance<\/i>, is a joy and a delight.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\">For starters, <i>Vitus Dance<\/i> just sounds good. The production is impeccable and the band\u2019s trademark harmonies shine and sparkle, especially on tracks like \u201cOracle.\u201d Gaia Consort is one of the few bands who know how to use a string section; the cello thrums like blood in the temple, the violin wails and cries and the whole thing makes chills run down your spine.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal\">Bingham is a consummate songwriter.\u00a0 \u201cDirty Little Secret\u201d is a passionate paean to forbidden and hidden love, \u201cAll We\u2019ve Got\u201d is a guitar-laced anthem to changing the world from the ground up and \u201cVitus Dance\u201d challenges you not to dance.
