{"id":40647,"date":"2007-12-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-12-14T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/good-vibrations\/"},"modified":"2007-12-14T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2007-12-14T00:00:00","slug":"good-vibrations","status":"publish","type":"review","link":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/good-vibrations\/","title":{"rendered":"Good Vibrations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not sure how I was able to get enough money (probably allowance), and not sure of the actual cost (my guess would be a dollar something each), but I do remember where I bought my first two vinyl albums.\u00a0 It was at a corner drug store, called Cortilet, in <st1:place><st1:city>South   Holland<\/st1:city>, <st1:state>Illinois<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>.\u00a0 As I was looking through the albums there, two albums caught my eye and ended up in my little bitty hands as I walked out the door, thanks to the allowance I had.<br \/> \u00a0<br \/> Those two albums were <i>God Bless Tiny Tim<\/i> and Ronco&#8217;s <i>Good Vibration<\/i>s.\u00a0 My record album collection had begun.<br \/> \u00a0<br \/> As much as you are probably laughing at Tiny Tim, his first two albums were in my vinyl collection as I was growing up.\u00a0 Both albums, as well as his entire catalogue for Reprise Records has been reissued as a box set called <i>God Bless Tiny Tim: The Complete Reprise Recordings<\/i>.<br \/> \u00a0<br \/> My memories of the Ronco LP are heartwarming.\u00a0 This was album was played constantly, and to this day, I still have this album.\u00a0 Recently, I took a look at it, and made a custom CD of all the songs from it.\u00a0 I have all the individual artists\u2019 CDs, whether they be full length recordings by the artists themselves, or some that were on various artists compilations.\u00a0 The Ronco LP contains edited versions of the songs, however some of the full-length albums I have on CD contained the longer versions.\u00a0 Luckily, all the songs did fit on one standard CD.<br \/> \u00a0<br \/> I believe this album became my first experience with radio DJ&#8217;ing.\u00a0 A friend from grammar school and I put on a tape recorder and DJ&#8217;d every song from it.\u00a0 He moved to <st1:state><st1:place>Arizona<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> a year or so later; oh, to hear that tape today. The only recollection I have is when my friend muttered the words &#8220;Tough sh!t&#8221; and we stopped the tape, laughing hysterically, and corrected ourselves by saying &#8220;Tough toenails.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As for the songs, there are some classic songs from the 1970s:\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure most of us canremember Johnny Nash&#8217;s &#8220;I Can See Clearly Now,&#8221; &#8220;Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress)&#8221; by The Hollies, Harold Melvin &#038; The Bluenotes&#8217; &#8220;If You Don&#8217;t Know Me By Now&#8221; (which would be covered decades later by Simply Red, and reach #1).\u00a0 Other songs that would reach #1 included the Johnny Nash song, Mac Davis&#8217; &#8220;Baby Don&#8217;t Get Hooked On Me,&#8221; The Looking Glass&#8217; &#8220;Brandy,&#8221; and Sly &#038; The Family Stone&#8217;s &#8220;Thank You Falletinme Be Mice Elf Agin.\u201d \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>There are some great album tracks here as well where you know the artist&#8217;s name, but might not be familiar with the song:\u00a0 Blood, Sweat &#038; Tears&#8217; &#8220;Go Down Gamblin'&#8221; is a great rocking song, especially the long version from their <i>Blood Sweat &#038; Tears 3<\/i> album.\u00a0 The same can be said about the long version of Rod Stewart&#8217;s &#8220;Handbags And Gladrags&#8221; from <i>The Rod Stewart Album<\/i>.\u00a0 Mott The Hoople&#8217;s &#8220;All The Young Dudes&#8221; (written and produced by David Bowie) is another classic.\u00a0 Poco&#8217;s &#8220;A Good Feeling To Know&#8221; can also be found on their <i>The Forgotten Trail (1969-74)<\/i> double disc.\u00a0 The Association&#8217;s version of John Sebastian\/Lovin&#8217; Spoonful &#8220;Darling Be Home Soon&#8221; is a very impressive song and one of my personal favorites.\u00a0 &#8220;Darling Be Home Soon&#8221; is from the band&#8217;s release <i>Waterbeds In Trinidad<\/i>.\u00a0 Melanie had a huge hit with &#8220;Brand New Key&#8221;; her song &#8220;Peace Will Come&#8221; is probably my least favorite from this Ronco compilation.<br \/> \u00a0<br \/> There are other good songs on this compilation:\u00a0 Ramsey Lewis&#8217; &#8220;Slipping Into Darkness&#8221; is a great soulful instrumental.\u00a0 James Brown&#8217;s &#8220;Down And Out In New York City,&#8221; from his <i>Black Caesar <\/i>soundtrack release, is here.\u00a0 The O&#8217;Jays had many hits, however &#8220;992 Arguments&#8221; may not ring any bells.\u00a0 Loudon Wainwright III&#8217;s &#8220;Dead Skunk,&#8221; Chi Coltrane&#8217;s &#8220;Thunder And Lightning,&#8221; Albert Hammond&#8217;s &#8220;It Never Rains In Southern California,&#8221; King Harvest&#8217;s &#8220;Dancing In The Moonlight,&#8221; Redbone&#8217;s &#8220;Witch Queen Of New Orleans&#8221; fill out this great collection.<br \/> \u00a0<br \/> For those who remember and enjoy the music of the 1970s, these songs will bring great memories.\u00a0 It includes a wide variety of different genres and styles of music.\u00a0 Some say the decade of the 1970s wasn&#8217;t a great decade for popular music, but personally,\u00a0I never really found any type of music from the 70s that I don\u2019t enjoy.\u00a0 And <i>Good Vibrations<\/i> captures the essence of the decade\u2019s popular music scene well.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":11,"featured_media":29127,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"artist":[5827],"rating":[5646],"class_list":["post-40647","review","type-review","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","artist-various-artists","rating-rating-a"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/review\/40647","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/review"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/review"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/11"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=40647"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/review\/40647\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/29127"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=40647"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"artist","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/artist?post=40647"},{"taxonomy":"rating","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/rating?post=40647"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
