{"id":40953,"date":"2008-06-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-14T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/inundare\/"},"modified":"2008-06-14T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2008-06-14T00:00:00","slug":"inundare","status":"publish","type":"review","link":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/inundare\/","title":{"rendered":"Inundare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Having had the privilege and the fun of seeing Bellafeather at <st1:city><st1:place>Austin<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>\u2019s Pagan Pride Day 2006, I really wanted to capture the essence of her debut CD, <i>Inundare<\/i>, in this review. Unfortunately, there\u2019s a problem with that; capturing Bellafeather\u2019s sound is like capturing a will-o-the-wisp or bottling a Scottish pukka. Every time I think I had it nailed down, the damn thing changed. At various times on <i>Inundare<\/i>, she dabbles in Ani diFranco, XTC, King\u2019s X, Joni Mitchell\u2019s jazz phase, Thelma Houston, BOTH the Wainwrights, Michelle Shocked, Joan Baez, and goddess-knows-what-else. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This is not to say that Bellafeather is a dilettante. Far from it, she\u2019s an incredibly talented songwriter, a multi-talented instrumentalist (she plays everything on <i>Inundare<\/i> save the drums, earning her the Jude Cole Memorial Overachiever Award), and a fine singer with an earthy alto growl that nevertheless occasionally arches triumphantly over the music. There\u2019s a lot of power in her music, a lot of emotion, and it shows in the complicated harmonies and the simple elegance and strength of the music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The production is clean and spare without being overly complicated; occasional moments of richness (specifically, the piano and insistent dance rhythms on \u201cAll Its Done\u201d) serve as a welcome change of pace, the auditory equivalent of a palate-cleanser between courses. \u00a0<i>Inundare<\/i> is indeed about being drowned, flooded, and suffused with sound (and more than a little fury), and it\u2019s wonderfully done.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Specific tracks worth highlighting include the aforementioned \u201cAll Its Done\u201d, the crunchy grunge of \u201cNot About Me,\u201d\u00a0 the passion and anger of \u201cNo Lie No Lie,\u201d and the pure <st1:state><st1:place>Texas<\/st1:place><\/st1:state> cussedness of \u201cKiss My Ass\u201d (which is not at ALL kid \u2013friendly, but funnier than hell).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Bellafeather is a strong woman. <i>Inundare<\/i> is a strong album and a strong statement, and I recommend checking it out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":18,"featured_media":29382,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"artist":[8215],"rating":[5613],"class_list":["post-40953","review","type-review","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","artist-jo-beth-henderson-is-bellafeather","rating-rating-a-minus"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/review\/40953","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/review"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/review"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/18"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=40953"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/review\/40953\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/29382"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=40953"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"artist","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/artist?post=40953"},{"taxonomy":"rating","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/rating?post=40953"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
