Cale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>J. J. Cale was a contemporary and friend of Eric Clapton. His songwriting and bluesy swamp rock appealed to Clapton, who recorded a number of his songs during the course of his career, including such signature tunes as \u201cCocaine\u201d and \u201cAfter Midnight.\u201d In 2006,\u00a0they combined their talents to create the <em>Grammy <\/em>winning album <em>The Road To Escondido.<\/em>\u00a0Cale passed away during July of 2013 at the age of 74.\u00a0To honor his old friend, Clapton has released a tribute album\u00a0covering 16 of his compositions.<\/p>\n<p>Clapton gathers together such\u00a0guitarists and singers as Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, Don White, John Mayer, Derek Trucks, and Mark Knopfler and creates a heartfelt tribute to his longtime friend. Also on hand as a rhythm section are bassist Nathan East and drummer Jim Keltner.<\/p>\n<p>There have been good tribute albums and some very bad ones as well. I\u2019m happy to say that <em>The Breeze <\/em>falls on the good side of the ledger. In addition to his friends, Clapton made the wise decision to play guitar and\/or sing on all the tracks. While he allows his guests to step forward, Clapton is also present as a foundation for all of the songs.<\/p>\n<p>Cale\u2019s music has a simplicity and subtlety about it. Willie Nelson\u2019s approach is very similar as he brings his weary voice to \u201cSongbird.\u201d He then teams up with one of the world\u2019s great guitarists Derek Trucks\u00a0on a cover of \u201cStarbound.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Very few guitarists have a sound that rivals Clapton\u2019s, but Mark Knopfler is one of them. He brings his unique sound to \u201cSomeday.\u201d John Mayer\u2019s vocal takes \u201cMagnolia\u201d in a distinct country direction. Tom Petty and Clapton have surprisingly good vocal harmonies\u00a0on \u201cRock And Roll Records,\u201d \u201cI Got The Same Old Blues,\u201d and \u201cThe Old Man And Me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCall Me The Breeze,\u201d \u201cCajun Moon,\u201d and \u201cSince You Said Goodbye\u201d are Eric Clapton tracks. He does not overwhelm the material but brings to it a laidback style that enhances the texture of the music.<\/p>\n<p>  <em>The Breeze <\/em>is a labor of love from one friend to another. It is a fitting memorial to J.J.
