To say that Alyssa and Doug Graham have a close and lasting relationship is an understatement. At the age of nine, Doug met seven-year-old Alyssa, and the rest is musical and marital history.<\/p>\n
They are a couple who lives their music. Their 2013 debut album, Riverman\u2019s Daughter,<\/em>\u00a0was the result of an expedition down the Mississippi\u2019s Great River Road. The pair has now returned with another heartfelt and more ambitious project.<\/p>\n They move from the river to the rails for their latest album Glory Bound. <\/em>They rode the rails as they crafted music for their new release. The result is a country album with a very organic feel as its musical approach harps back to\u00a0imagery, feelings, and styling\u00a0of\u00a0Woody Guthrie.<\/p>\n The project did not stop at just\u00a0an album; they also decided to film a musical documentary film\u00a0at the same time, which focuses on the relationship between railroads and American roots music.<\/p>\n The music of Glory Bound <\/em>begins with a a smooth country approach and moves outward to combine with other formats. The ballad \u201cMama\u201d and the exquisite \u201cLay Me Down\u201d have a spiritual element. Alyssa\u2019s voice can soar, and Doug\u2019s guitar work, both electric and acoustic, provides a firm foundation to their sound.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Spinner\u201d and \u201cPromised Land\u201d have a traditional country connection, while \u201cBiscuits\u201d moves in a gentle blues direction.<\/p>\n The music from Riding The Hocks <\/em>is different and more\u00a0eclectic. There are banjos and there are tubas,\u00a0as well as some stunning a capella vocals that sound like early\u00a0field recordings.<\/p>\n Whether approached jointly or individually, Glory Road <\/em>and Riding The Hocks <\/em>are both admirable releases. While the\u00a0music moves in somewhat different directions, the music is real, authentic, and in touch with an important part of American culture.
