Now about 15 years into her career, Dulcie Taylor has returned with another album of introspective and intelligent folk\/Americana music. Featured here are some of her many friends, including guitarist\/vocalist George Nauful and acoustic guitarist\/vocalist Tony Recupido.\u00a0Both contribute the lead vocal for two songs.<\/p>\n
Thirteen of the fourteen songs are original compositions. Songwriting has always been Taylor\u2019s strength as she has a poetic quality to her stories. When you\u00a0combine the poetic lyrics with her simple melodies, it forms an effective and creative mix.<\/p>\n
A\u00a0number of the tracks on this release are an American history lesson. She delves back to the American Revolution with \u201cNot Here Not Today\u201d for a salute to the sacrifices of the American Patriots.\u00a0She then moves to\u00a0a salute to \u201cRosa Parks\u201d who\u00a0was the woman who refused to give up her seat in the white section of a Southern bus in 1955. She next\u00a0progresses to a poignant tribute to\u00a0Flight 93. It all adds up to wonderful storytelling on display.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen The Cherokee Roamed\u201d is a song about America\u2019s history from a physical perspective. \u201cPrayers\u201d is a\u00a0personal history of spiritual connection, while \u201cI Take It Back\u201d is a poetic reflection on speaking before thinking. The only cover song, the Supremes hit \u201cMy World Is Empty Without You,\u201d may seem like an odd\u00a0choice, but the words match the rest of the songs.<\/p>\n
It is Taylor\u2019s songwriting ability that shines throughout. Perhaps the best song is the album closer \u201cLove Like Yours And Mine.\u201d It is a poignant and upbeat look at memories of the home that should strike should strike a chord with anyone of a certain age looking back on life.<\/p>\n
Dulcie Taylor is an artist who has her craft figured out. Wind Over Stone <\/em>is an accurate description of the lightness and solidity of her music.
