Due to a bout of rheumatic fever as a child, he lived with a damaged heart all of his life. He passed away December 20<sup>th<\/sup>, 1973 at the age of 37 following heart surgery. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Today, Bobby Darin is best remembered for his series of pop\/rock hits during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Songs such as \u201cMack The Knife,\u201d \u201cDream Lover,\u201d \u201cSplish Slash,\u201d and \u201cQueen Of The Hop\u201d propelled him into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">When he signed with Motown in 1970, he was moving in a new direction. Leaving behind his teen pop and rock past, he was becoming an interpreter of songs. His voice had matured and his ability to adapt to a broad range of material was making him a Las Vegas favorite.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Unfortunately, his Motown releases were not commercially successful and have long been out of print. Now, Real Gone Music has gathered his last studio album and the one released after his death along with his single releases and some alternate takes, combining them under the title <i>Another Song On My Mind: The Motown Years.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Darin\u2019s Motown material was an eclectic mix of sounds and styles, which resulted in some hits and misses. He seemed most comfortable with what can be called singer\/songwriter material. Randy Newman\u2019s \u201cSail Away,\u201d his own \u201cSimple Song Of Freedom,\u201d Tim Hardin\u2019s \u201cIf I Were A Carpenter,\u201d and Dylan\u2019s\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ll Be Your Baby Tonight\u201d and \u201cDon\u2019t Think Twice It\u2019s All Right\u201d are laidback and understated and fit Darin\u2019s early 1970s style well. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">On the other hand, when he tackles such hits of the day such as \u201cI Won\u2019t Last A Day Without You,\u201d \u201cThe Letter,\u201d and \u201cSomeday We\u2019ll Be Together\u201d the results are less successful.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As with all the Real Gone releases, the sound is clean and the enclosed booklet gives a nice history of Darin and the music. <\/p>\n<p>  Darin\u2019s Motown years were a work in progress that was cut short. What is left is a glimpse into the music and mind of an artist in transition.
