With their first full-length motion picture in theatres, The Lonely Island has returned with the soundtrack to the film doubling as their fourth album. All of the tracks are performed in the guise of Conner4Real and the Style Boyz, the main characters of the film. But without the benefit of seeing the performances in the film, the music really suffers and this record is ultimately one of the most disappointing of the year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m So Humble,\u201d another collaboration with Adam Levine, is a fun track, while \u201cFinest Girl\u201d is the best song to be found here, featuring lyrics about how his girl wants him to bang her harder than the U.S. killed Bin Laden! The latter track is a blast, but others like \u201cEqual Rights\u201d and \u201cTurn Up the Beef\u201d just fall flat without the visuals to back them up.<\/p>\n
Then there are others \u2013 like \u201cThings in My Jeep\u201d featuring Linkin Park and \u201cAshley Wednesday\u201d featuring Seal \u2013 that are duds even in the film. Needless to say, this is one of the unfunniest records I\u2019ve heard in a good long while, and I\u2019ve listened to Adam Sandler and Larry The Cable Guy records!<\/p>\n
There are also tracks featuring actor Chris Redd playing Hunter The Hungry that just fall on their faces, like \u201c2 Banditos,\u201d which just isn\u2019t funny at all. That seems to be the problem with most of the record. \u201cKarate Guy\u201d and \u201cSick Glenda\u201d are just painfully stupid and \u2018songs\u2019 like this just out and out SUCK.<\/p>\n
Now don\u2019t get me wrong, I do like The Lonely Island. I thought the movie was hysterical and who doesn\u2019t like \u201cYOLO\u201d or \u201cI Just Had Sex?\u201d Those songs are funny and you don\u2019t need the visuals in order to enjoy them, but with this soundtrack, the material just isn\u2019t up to par and ultimately all you wind up with is one unfunny album.
