{"id":45431,"date":"2018-10-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-14T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/my-way\/"},"modified":"2018-10-14T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-10-14T00:00:00","slug":"my-way","status":"publish","type":"review","link":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/my-way\/","title":{"rendered":"My Way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Willie Nelson released his first studio album in 1962 and now, 56 years later, at the age of 85, shows no sign of slowing down. <em>My Way <\/em>is his 12th\u00a0release since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson\u2019s new album, as the title suggests, is an album of songs made famous by Frank Sinatra. He is one of the few living artists who could even attempt a project of this type, as Sinatra made just about any song his own and his versions are considered definitive.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson is an iconic country artist, but has moved in a pop and easy listening direction on a number of occasions, including his 2016 release <i>Summertime: Willie Nelson Sings Gershwin, <\/i>which won a Traditional Vocal Album Grammy Award. <\/p>\n<p>His voice may not be as strong as in the past but it has acquired a nice patina. He brings a weariness and nostalgia to the songs as opposed to Sinatra\u2019s smoothness, which was known as a swinging style.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson has always had impeccable phrasing\u00a0and that serves him well on covers such as the title song, \u201cIt Was A Very Good Year,\u201d \u201cSummer Wind,\u201d and \u201cFly Me To The Moon.\u201d His use of a string section is a little disconcerting as his approach should always be simpler is better.<\/p>\n<p>Possibly the best track is \u201cOne For My Baby (And One For The Road),\u201d which is closer to the original. The most interesting track is a duet with Norah Jones on \u2018What Is This Thing Called Love,\u201d which gives it a different spin.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson has a very distinct voice, which makes oft recorded songs like \u201cBlue Moon,\u201d \u201cI\u2019ll Be Around,\u201d and \u201cYoung At Heart\u201d palatable.<\/p>\n<p>  This is not country Willie; this is the Great American Songbook Willie.
