The answer is yes, mostly. Kick<\/i> has its moments of excessive whimsy, and probably could have used a little trimming; out of the 13 songs on the CD, two are unnecessary baggage. But damn it, the woman was nineteen<\/i>. At that age, it was probably questionable if I was sober and in my right mind. (Those who say I have never been in my right mind probably have a point. But I digress.)<\/p>\n
Breaking it down, \u201cWuthering Heights,\u201d \u201cMoving,\u201d and \u201cThem Heavy People\u201d are solid. \u201cRoom For The Life\u201d should be a feminist anthem, and \u201cThe Kick Inside\u201d is a heartbreaking story about brother\/sister incest. (Yes, I said that. Yes, it\u2019s true. No, I\u2019m not that<\/i> weird.) Bush handles sensuality and sexuality with astonishing maturity on \u201cL\u2019Amour Looks Something Like You\u201d and \u201cFeel It.\u201d<\/p>\n
Frankly, however, I can do without \u201cKite\u201d and \u201cStrange Phenomena.\u201d These two tracks seem oddly slipshod, especially on the vocals; it feels like perhaps Bush wasn\u2019t as invested in these.<\/p>\n
And then there\u2019s \u201cThe Man With The Child In His Eyes.\u201d If I had to listen to one Kate Bush song for the rest of my life, this gentle and thoughtful ballad might be it.<\/p>\n
Is The Kick Inside<\/i> perfect? No. Does it have the seeds of her future greatness? Definitely.
