The drummer Jack Irons has a resume that\u2019s as impressive as it is lengthy, and includes playing in or with Eleven, Pearl Jam, The Wallflowers, the Mark Lanegan Band, Joe Strummer, Neil Young and, perhaps most noteworthy, being a founding member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.<\/p>\n
These 11 tracks bring together a pair of EPs (Dreamer\u2019s Ball<\/i> and Walnut<\/i>) where his inimitable drumming presence welcomes synth for a sonically exciting and very diverse listening experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cRace Against Everything\u201d opens the listen with wild and very animated drumming that spends nearly 10 minutes mesmerizing us with its hazy cinematic qualities. \u201cSeeing The Light From Underwater\u201d follows with a distinct buzzing which is complemented by the animated drum progressions, while \u201cA Wave Unknowingly Rises\u201d finds a more introspective place to reside with heavy emphasis on mood.<\/p>\n
The last two tracks from the front half are among the best, where the rapid-fire drumming of \u201cCompassion\u201d is immediately striking, and \u201cLeft The Building\u201d offers a busy, dense and dynamic display of meticulous songcraft.<\/p>\n
Walnut<\/i> is a bit more experimental in scope, where \u201cWalnut One\u201d offers both calm and thick gestures via the swirling drumming acrobatics. \u201cGoing Interstellar\u201d then enters sci-fi territory with its sonic manipulation of sound, and \u201cShortbread,\u201d even at just one minute, engages us with the unparalleled attention to detail. <\/p>\n
\u201cAllusion\u201d and \u201cEye In The Universe\u201d exit the listen, where the former makes great use of the throbbing synth in an \u201980s post-punk sort of fashion, and the latter radiates a mysterious melody buried under the hazy synth and fluid drums. <\/p>\n
