The Santa Cruz 10-piece collective The Inciters have been at it since the mid \u201990s, and these 11 energetic tracks do a great job of documenting the memorableness of their live shows thanks to the precise and spontaneous feel that had the band recording most of the album with minimal overdubs. <\/p>\n
The title track begins the listen and makes an instant impression thanks to Matthew Valenzuela\u2019s thumping drums and Michael Luke\u2019s animated bass lines that are complemented by bright brass and soaring vocals. \u201cIf I Didn\u2019t\u201d then benefits much from Daniel Miltz\u2019s excellent trombone prowess that suits the calm versus busy moments of thoughtful, timeless instrumentation. <\/p>\n
The remainder of Side A consists of the rhythmic and stylish \u201cLove Comes Around,\u201d as well as the festive spirit of the lively \u201cBoot And Soul,\u201d where Don Roland\u2019s lead guitar is executed flawlessly amid the group vocals. \u201cWalking Away\u201d then heads into rock\u2019n\u2019roll territory with its sturdy guitar solos, speedy rhythm section and smooth as silk singing.<\/p>\n
The back half of the listen offers the melodic and bouncy album highlight, \u201cUp In A Puff Of Smoke,\u201d plus the brass heavy \u201cWe Gave It A Good Run,\u201d where Kevin Zinn and Timothy Bailey\u2019s saxophones won\u2019t go unnoticed or unappreciated. <\/p>\n
Near to the end, \u201cWaiting By The Phone\u201d is a punchy and upbeat rocker that blends horns, guitars and expressive singing, and \u201cAlways. Sometimes. Never\u201d exits with Rick Kendrick’s trumpet on display for the intimate yet adventurous closer.<\/p>\n
