On this reissue we’re treated to several unearthed tunes that didn’t quite fit on the original 2003 release of Celebrating Bix!<\/i>, where the memory of the legendary \u201920s jazz legend Bix Beiderbecke is preserved with much care and energy.<\/p>\n
The 22-track listen opens with Randy Reinhart\u2019s vibrant cornet and Joe Ascione\u2019s skilled drumming steering the frisky climate, and \u201cProud (Of A Baby Like You)\u201d continues that mood with Jack Stuckey\u2019s focused alto sax and Mark Shane\u2019s finger acrobatics on piano. <\/p>\n
Entering Side B, \u201cBlue River\u201d places Howard Alden\u2019s warm guitar and Vince Giordano\u2019s proficient bass front and center for the gentle delivery, though it\u2019s Dick Hyman\u2019s exceptional piano playing that steals the show for this portion thanks to the rich \u201cClementine (From New Orleans).\u201d<\/p>\n
The second half of the fun welcomes Dan Levinson\u2019s saxophone and Dan Barrett\u2019s trombone on the aptly titled \u201cTrumbology,\u201d and later, the previously unreleased \u201cChina Boy\u201d is populated by Reinhart and Randy Sandke\u2019s cornet solos that illuminates the party anthem.<\/p>\n
The last few tracks don\u2019t disappoint either, as \u201cJust An Hour Of Love,\u201d another resurrected track, is sure to get you on the dance floor thanks to Barbara Rosene\u2019s pretty pipes and the body-shaking rhythm. Close to the end, The Manhattan Rhythm Kings are present on vocals for the retro nods of \u201cSan,\u201d and \u201cDeep Down South\u201d exits with James Langton\u2019s excellent vocal performance that puts a firm exclamation point on this nostalgic jazz reissue. <\/p>\n
