The Pirates Press label has reached the rare milestone of 400 releases now, and to celebrate the occasion they’ve treated us to these 16 tracks (five are previously unreleased) from the stars of their roster, many of which just happen to be some of the best of the best in the modern day hardcore\/punk scene.<\/p>\n
The Inciters start the party with their soulful brand of thumping Motown flavor across \u201cBring Back The Weekend,\u201d and The Slackers continue that mood with the highly rhythmic dub, rocksteady and ska influences that populate \u201cNew York Berlin.\u201d<\/p>\n
The pace and volume then picks up thanks to the bouncy bass lines and driving guitars of the charged \u201cHello Outsider,\u201d from Territories, before the raw and gritty folk-rock of Billy Liar\u2019s \u201cHogmanay.\u201d <\/p>\n
Further into the first half, the head bobbin\u2019, toe tappin\u2019 \u201cThe City\u201d shows us just how infectious Hunting Lions can be, and the always excellent Teenage Bottlerocket finishes off Side A with their swirling pop-punk fun.<\/p>\n
Leading off the backside is the dense and furious hardcore of Flores Y Fuego, whose \u201cSoy Tu Voz\u201d is hard hitting and bristling. \u201cSister,\u201d a previously unreleased track, then illustrates Starving Wolves\u2019 gruff yet melodic ways. <\/p>\n
More unreleased selections land near the end, and include the throbbing bass and wild drumming of Noi\u00a1se\u2019s \u201cWhat We’ve Gained.\u201d as well as Sweat\u2019s yelping and jarring \u201cPure Display.\u201d The record exits with some good old-fashioned working-class punk thanks to Stomper 98’s \u201cAlex-Schatten De Nacht.\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Whether your interests lie towards Oi!, reggae, ska, soul or straight forward rock\u2019n\u2019roll, there\u2019s something for everyone here.
