The sophomore album from the legendary Pat Benatar, Crimes Of Passion<\/i> is her best-selling record to date, and marked the first time Myron Grombacher played drums for her, though it certainly wasn\u2019t the last. <\/p>\n
The crisp and rhythmic \u201cTreat Me Right\u201d starts things with Benatar\u2019s inimitable pipes alongside Grombacher\u2019s animated drums and a chorus you won\u2019t soon forget. \u201cYou Better Run\u201d then brings plenty of riffs to the dense and tense rock-fueled climate, before the calmer mood of the dreamy \u201cNever Wanna Leave You.\u201d<\/p>\n
The middle is where Benatar\u2019s best-known tune lives: \u201cHit Me With Your Best Shot.\u201d Written by Eddie Schwartz, this song is as timeless and anthemic as they come, and certainly fits in well with the rest of the record. <\/p>\n
The back half leads with Scott St. Clair Sheets\u2019 buzzing guitar and Benatar\u2019s gritty yet tuneful singing across \u201cLittle Paradise,\u201d but it\u2019s the intimate \u201cI\u2019m Gonna Follow You\u201d that finds a more soulful place to reside. <\/p>\n
The final tracks are on par with the greatness of the entire record. \u201cPrisoner Of Love\u201d makes great use of Roger Capps\u2019 very skilled bass lines, while \u201cOut-A-Touch\u201d benefits much from Neil Giraldo\u2019s rhythm guitar that suits Benatar\u2019s diverse range and timeless pop-rock formula. <\/p>\n
Only John Lennon and Yoko Ono could nudge Benatar out of the top spot on the charts for this one. The album has sold 4 million plus copies, no doubt in part due to the success of \u201cHit Me With Your Best Shot,\u201d but there isn\u2019t a bad tune on the disc. The addition of two covers (The Young Rascals and Kate Bush) is a nice touch, too. <\/p>\n
