This 11-song set captured at the Warehouse in Houston in 2006 finds the long running outfit The Fabulous Thunderbirds in fine form, with frontman Kim Wilson leading the band through their distinct and varied brand of the blues.<\/p>\n
The animated \u201cSlow Down\u201d opens with Gene Taylor\u2019s quick keys and Jimi Bott\u2019s rowdy drums helping make for a lively blues rocker. \u201cPostman\u201d follows, and it’s a bit more subdued, where spirited guitar and grooves enter the rich delivery. <\/p>\n
Working our way towards the middle, the thumping and rhythmic \u201cGot To Get Out\u201d offers a scrappy moment, while \u201cPainted On\u201d benefits from Kirk Fletcher\u2019s rugged guitar alongside Wilson\u2019s soaring pipes and Ronnie James Weber\u2019s meticulous bass lines. Deeper yet, \u201cWait On Time\u201d is full of raw guitar playing amid the dynamic rhythm section.<\/p>\n
Close to the end, the dense and dance floor-ready \u201cPretty Baby\u201d allows for Wilson\u2019s harmonica to shine, though his powerful pipes don\u2019t disappoint either, and \u201cMarked Deck\u201d exits the evening with Wilson\u2019s sturdy singing and the precise musicianship, making for a tuneful and memorable finish.<\/p>\n
A band that\u2019s been active since the mid \u201970s and have had dozens of band members, The Fabulous Thunderbirds in this version embraces the cajun, soul and rock influences that entered their sound later on, and their two biggest hits, \u201cWrap It Up\u201d and \u201cTuff Enuff,\u201d are both included. <\/p>\n
Although Wilson was the only original member in attendance during this show, the band maintained a level of playing that remains constant to this day.
