The four punk rock veterans who make up Seattle’s Taste Testors come from bands like The Briefs, Rabid Dogs, The Piniellas, The Greatest Hits and Clean Lines, to name a few. This first LP certainly retains the rock\u2019n\u2019roll spirit of the Pacific Northwest, but also touches on the early days of legendary clubs like CBGB.<\/p>\n
The bouncy and melodic \u201cWhat She Don\u2019t Know Will Hurt Her\u201d opens with plenty of tuneful punk rock, where Nils Larson\u2019s buzzing lead guitar guides the infectious energy. The scrappy \u201cI Don\u2019t Want You To Fall In Love With Me\u201d follows with Vic Sanchez\u2019s punchy drums that suit front man Steve E\u2019s smooth pipes.<\/p>\n
Deeper into Side A, \u201cI Don\u2019t Wanna Be A Zombie\u201d is a more muscular version of Taste Testors, but still highly melodic and with plenty of sing-alongs, and \u201cShe Looks Cool In Every Direction\u201d makes for a swift, garage-rock influenced first half highlight.<\/p>\n
Side B leads with \u201cWe Don\u2019t Wanna Have Nothing To Do With You,\u201d where head bobbin\u2019, toe tappin\u2019 fun is present, while \u201cShe Didn\u2019t Tell Me She Was A Dopehead\u201d has bassist Leif Larson and Nils Larson contributing vocal harmonies via the fuzzy delivery.<\/p>\n
The last two songs, thankfully, are pretty similar to the eight before them. \u201cThe Last Thing I Want\u201d touches on retro-punk ideas that you could dance to, and \u201cNarc\u201d exits with is a rowdy and raw blast of snotty, timeless punk flavor. <\/p>\n
At just 18 minutes, this one\u2019s over before it starts, and, in the grand tradition of all things punk, if you don\u2019t like a song, well, there\u2019s a new one coming real quick.
