I spent a lot of time listening to all things metal in the \u201980s, but never did buy any Krokus records. It wasn\u2019t from a lack of trying, I just could never find the Swiss metal giant\u2019s work in stores. I knew they were great\u2014all my favorite bands would talk about them in magazines\u2014but the closest I ever got was an Accept tune on a compilation cassette.<\/p>\n
This appropriately titled 13th album originally came out in 1999, and now it\u2019s available for the first time on vinyl. The Welsh vocalist Carl Sentance (ex-Persian Risk, Geezer Butler Band) makes quite an impression on his only album with Krokus, where all the members took some time off from dad life to flesh out these 10 hard hitters.<\/p>\n
\u201cHeya\u201d begins with plenty of rawness, where Fernando von Arb\u2019s dense guitar and Peter Haas\u2019 thumping drums align with Sentence\u2019s strong range, and the group vocals of the gritty \u201cMoney Back\u201d follows with both hard hitting and melodic song craft. <\/p>\n
The rest of the first side is equally well done, where the rhythmic \u201cBreak Free\u201d benefits from Many Maurer\u2019s playful bass, while \u201cGuitar Rules\u201d allows for Sentence\u2019s powerful voice to soar amid Chris Lauper\u2019s animated guitar licks.<\/p>\n
The back half leads with the chugging guitar of the driving \u201cSuck My Guitar,\u201d as well as the bluesy flavor of \u201cGypsy Love.\u201d \u201cWitchhunt\u201d then uses rich textures and meticulous songwriting for the best selection off side B, and \u201cWild Times\u201d exits with the lively rhythm section and Sentence\u2019s colorful voice making for an anthemic closer.<\/p>\n
Krokus has seem many line up changes since their inception in 1975.
