{"id":47229,"date":"2025-09-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/the-mountain-blinks\/"},"modified":"2025-09-26T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-09-26T00:00:00","slug":"the-mountain-blinks","status":"publish","type":"review","link":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/the-mountain-blinks\/","title":{"rendered":"The Mountain Blinks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The Dundalk, Ireland natives and current Dublin residents norabelle know their way around a modern folk tune that stirs the soul, and this sophomore album treats us to 10 authentic and acoustic tracks.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The lullaby-esque \u201cBlack Ribbon\u201d gets the listen off to a cozy start, where Ken Clarke and Shane O&#8217;Hanrahan&#8217;s pretty voices harmonize alongside the mesmerizing guitar. \u201cShe&#8217;s Not Here\u201d then spotlights Stephen Ludlow&#8217;s crisp drums and Stefano Rossi&#8217;s deep bass with cautiousness, before the soft and bare \u201cHow Long Does It Take?\u201d, which addresses grief with a haunting and powerful spirit.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Moving into the middle, the poetic and expressive \u201cLaundry List\u201d benefits from O&#8217;Hanrahan&#8217;s emotive keys that populate the tragic storytelling, while \u201cEnd Of July\u201d focuses on the touching vocal harmonies via a minimalist quality where Conal Duffy&#8217;s low whistle makes a cameo.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The back half includes the higher range from Clarke across the moody and crisp \u201cI Am Not A Talker\u201d, as well as the timeless folk song craft of the gripping \u201cImagine The Water\u201d. \u201cNothing But Love\u201d might be the best tune present, where the forthright singing, gentle keys and calm drumming explores aging.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The final two tracks, \u201cWarm Blood\u201d and \u201cI Need To Put You Away\u201d, follow a similar path to the rest of the bunch. The former recruits hushed melodies and thoughtful introspection, and the latter welcomes David Murphy&#8217;s pedal steel guitar for the hazy, country tinted exit. <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The quartet take influence from names like Sun Kil Moon, Bonnie Price Billy and Sufjan Stevens. Parallels to Red House Painters, Bill Callahan and Lambchop won&#8217;t be hard to spot.
