The atmospheric and glitchy \u201cThe Dream\u201d leads with Martin Masakowski\u2019s upright bass and Young\u2019s electric bass for the quick flash of cinematic ideas that was an accidental track. \u201cEarly Morning\u201d then uses both those basses in a creative, synthetic-versus-organic climate, while the grooves of \u201cFly On The Wall\u201d radiate much melody between Alfred Jordan\u2019s drums, Sam Kuslan\u2019s keys, and James Maestas\u2019 guitar.<\/p>\n
Deeper into the first half, \u201cBabycat\u2019s Melody\u201d makes great use of Shea Pierre\u2019s well timed keys and strategic synth bass via a reflective mood that began after an actual cat jump onto a piano, but it\u2019s the fuller and beat friendly \u201cNight Crawler\u201d that makes Side A worth a spin.<\/p>\n
The last five songs start with the busy and pop-fueled \u201cShadows\u201d that you could play late night at a club and doesn\u2019t shy away from rhythm, and \u201cGemini\u201d finds itself in dreamy ebbs alongside lush and stylish instrumentation. \u201cHurricane Season\u201d might be the most rock focused moment thanks to the dense guitar lines, bass acrobatics and crisp drumming that mirrors the turbulent New Orleans weather. Conversely, \u201cOne For Caidin\u201d is the most minimal, where intimacy and grace populate the soft gestures.<\/p>\n
\u201cLight In The Dark\u201d exits, and it\u2019s the only tune with Jamison Ross on drums and percussion, which makes for a frisky, infectious finish to a well-crafted body of work.<\/p>\n
Young views the bass as a multidimensional tool, and that\u2019s evident across these creative and intriguing songs.
