Supertramp’s final album with the classic line-up of Hodgson, Davies, Helliwell, Thomson and Siebenberg was 1982\u2019s …Famous Last Words…<\/i>, and the album found plenty of success on the charts.<\/p>\n
Here we\u2019re treated to this first record of the \u201980s from Supertramp with greater fidelity thanks to a half-speed remaster that gives us the best possible experience for the nine tracks.<\/p>\n
\u201cCrazy\u201d start with Rick Davies\u2019 unmistakable voice alongside Helliwell\u2019s saxophone and Hodgson\u2019s pump organ that adds much to the melodic and rich climate. \u201cPut On Your Old Brown Shoes\u201d follows with Davies handling harmonica and piano, as Thomson\u2019s frisky bass enters the grooves and soulful ideas.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s Raining Again\u201d and \u201cBonnie\u201d land in the middle of first side. The former injects Hodgson\u2019s glockenspiel and Davies\u2019 melodica into the pop fun, while the latter benefits from Helliwell\u2019s synth and Siebenberg\u2019s skilled drums via the soft rock ideas. \u201cKnow Who You Are\u201d exits the first half with Hodgson\u2019s expressive pipes amid strong attention to atmosphere that emits dreaminess.<\/p>\n
The back half leads with the mature and smooth \u201cMy Kind Of Lady,\u201d which enlists, synth, sax and guitar strategically, as well as the warm spirit of \u201cC\u2019est Le Bon,\u201d where Hodson\u2019s meticulous string guitar and Helliwell\u2019s clarinet won\u2019t go unnoticed. \u201cWaiting So Long\u201d arrives late and might be the best tune, where distorted vocals and a plenty of progressive ideas enter the moody demeanor. \u201cDon\u2019t Leave Me Now\u201d exits with a heartbreaking ballad that\u2019s powerful and emotive.<\/p>\n
Hodgson would leave the band after this record for a solo career, but his songs certainly helped the band see more mainstream success. Ann and Nancy Wilson contribute vocals on the album, which is a great addition, and the pop fueled moments fit in quite well on the FM dial.<\/p>\n
