{"id":53404,"date":"2026-10-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/the-empire-child\/"},"modified":"2026-10-12T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-10-12T00:00:00","slug":"the-empire-child","status":"publish","type":"review","link":"https:\/\/dailyvault.adishjain.in\/index.php\/reviews\/the-empire-child\/","title":{"rendered":"The Empire Child"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The recording moniker of the London artist Ruth Rothwell, as Empire Child she injects her mixed Indo-Jamaican and South African heritage into a very diverse set of songs with an excellent cast by her side across an autobiographical and very thoughtful 10 songs. <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The cozy mood of \u201cMind Be Free\u201d starts with Rothwell\u2019s soothing voice and Mariano Diaz\u2019s warm keys that welcomes a precise rhythm section. \u201cRight Place\u201d follows with Rene Rossano\u2019s melodic guitar adding much to the lush climate, and \u201cCut Those Ties\u201d carries a similar sophistication via Miguel Parrando\u2019s dreamy flute and Tomi Lujan\u2019s agile drums.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The middle track belongs to \u201cFeeling Of Healing\u201d, where Adrian Vazquez\u2019s stirring viola and Daniel Acebes\u2019 elegant cello complement Rothwell\u2019s emotive pipes. \u201cStep Up Step On\u201d then enlists Alvaro Zarzuela\u2019s well timed trumpet alongside Victor Merlor\u2019s bass in a calm delivery, but it&#8217;s the inviting singing of the heartfelt \u201cTrace The Race\u201d that alone is worth the price of admission. <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Getting near the end, the reggae spirit of \u201cBy Boat\u201d benefits from Norberto Cardoba\u2019s frisky bass and the adaptable singing that\u2019s not short on rhythm. \u201cI Am The Knight\u201d and \u201cPeacefully Does It\u201d exit the record. The former is a punchy moment that\u2019s dance floor ready thanks to the animated rhythm section and strings, while the latter is an intimate finish via the soft singing, gentle drums, moody keys and strategic bass.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Rothwell has a lengthy background working behind the scenes at major labels and helping mold bands like Basement Jaxx and Zero 7.
