\u201cStill In Love\u201d follows with John Helliwell\u2019s rich saxophone presence before the sturdy rhythm section enters the retro-mood, and \u201cNo Inbetween\u201d takes that lead into more artistic avenues for this piano-fueled moment that uses tension strategically.<\/p>\n
Side A finishes with \u201cBetter Days,\u201d which carries a more ominous spirit buried under sonically engaging prog-rock that allows for Dougie Thomson\u2019s bass and Scott Page\u2019s flute to shine.<\/p>\n
The back half is just two songs, though \u201cBrother Where You Bound\u201d is 16-plus minutes. This busy tune finds David Gilmour\u2019s guitar, Scott Gorham\u2019s rhythm guitar, Page\u2019s flute and Marty Walsh\u2019s guitar all present alongside soundbites, jazz ideas and plenty of solos for the cinematic delivery.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery Open Door\u201d exits, a sparse, piano ballad that\u2019s heartfelt and powerful in its bare execution.<\/p>\n
Davies handles songwriting and singing duties on his own here, exceptionally, and the record reached number 21 on the Billboard 200. The abundance of guest musicians enhances the appeal, and the band\u2019s pop influences mix well with their signature progressive template.<\/p>\n
